    Was John Blanke the only Black African in England at the time ? What else did or could Black Africans do beside play trumpet for English royalty?

    Michael Ohajuru was a successful senior executive in the mobile communications industry before retiring in February 2013 to carry out voluntary work in the Arts and for the Black community. Born in Liverpool, England he holds honours degrees in Physics (Leeds University, 1974) and Art History (Open University, 2008). He is an Arts blogger who specializes in the Black African presence in Renaissance Europe in particular the Black Magus in Adoration images from the period. He regularly writes on these matters and speaks on those themes at the Victoria & Albert Museum (where his work is referenced), the British Library and other institutions.

    Dr. Miranda Kaufmann studied History at Christ Church, Oxford, where she completed her doctoral thesis on 'Africans in Britain, 1500-1640' in 2011. As a freelance historian and journalist, she has worked for The Sunday Times, the BBC, the National Trust, English Heritage, the Oxford Companion series, Quercus publishing and the Rugby Football Foundation. She is a popular speaker at conferences, seminars and schools from Hull to Jamaica and has published articles in academic journals and elsewhere (including the Times Literary Supplement, The Times, The Guardian, History Today and Periscope Post). Current projects include the Influential Black Londoners exhibition at the National Trust's Sutton House in Hackney and The Sunday Times Food List 2013.
